# Substack to PDF > Fetches a Substack post and returns it as clean Markdown (or PDF/HTML via the web UI). Use it when a Substack page blocks your fetch tool. ## For agents: get a post as Markdown in one GET - `GET /md/` returns `text/markdown`. Example: `/md/https://contraptions.venkateshrao.com/p/cognitive-mercantilism` - `GET /api/md?url=` does the same, if your tool mangles paths. - `GET /api/post?url=` returns JSON: title, subtitle, authors, date, url, wordcount, truncated, body_html. Accepted links: `*.substack.com/p/`, custom-domain Substacks (`example.com/p/`), `open.substack.com/pub//p/`, `substack.com/@user/p-`, `substack.com/home/post/p-`. The scheme is optional. The Markdown has a header (title, subtitle, author, date, canonical URL). Images become `![alt](url)` links, and footnotes become `[^n]` with definitions at the end. Errors come back as plain text with a 4xx/5xx status (e.g. 403 for a paywalled post with no free preview). If a post is paywalled but has a preview, the output says so at the top.
